
Having weighed up their options, Irelands’ west coast island communities are teaming up to investigate the possibility of generating renewable energy to produce hydrogen, whilst utilising their vast offshore wind potential.
The proposals, which features a consortium led by a community energy co-operative in the south west of the country, say that they have a solution to the current problems the Irish economy is facing – creation of long-term skilled jobs; guaranteed tax-revenue systems, and an independent, secure and local supply of green energy – and that solution is offshore hydrogen production for export.
